A DEVASTATING fire ripped through a residential area in Barangay 177, Malibay, Pasay City on Saturday morning, claiming the lives of four people and leaving two others injured.
Initially, reports indicated two fatalities and one missing person, according to Senior Fire Officer 1 Resmond Germino, chief public information officer of the Pasay City Fire Station. However, by 10 a.m., the grim toll rose to four confirmed deaths: a mother, her 7-year-old son, her 14-year-old niece (“pamangkin”), and her brother-in-law. This updated information was reported by GMA Integrated News’ Bea Pinlac.
Two additional residents sustained minor injuries; one suffered first-degree burns, while the other received a foot wound.
The fire, which broke out before dawn on Esteban Street near a creek and a local landmark known as Flores Tulay, quickly spread through a row of houses. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) responded by raising a third alarm as the blaze intensified.
