FORMER Philippine National Police (PNP) Deputy Chief for Operations, Police Lieutenant General Benjamin Santos Jr., surrendered to authorities Tuesday morning following the issuance of an arrest warrant related to an alleged staged operation in Manila in 2022.
PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo confirmed the surrender, stating that Santos voluntarily presented himself to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) around 4:48 a.m. He was served with the warrant and processed through standard booking procedures.
Santos was subsequently released around 9:12 a.m. after posting P200,000 bail, as per a release order from the Regional Trial Court Manila Branch 44, Fajardo added.
Prior to his surrender, Santos’ lawyer had contacted the CIDG to arrange the process, according to Fajardo. Authorities were waiting for Santos at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1. The specific charges against Santos related to the alleged staged operation remain undisclosed.
