THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced a series of measures to mitigate the expected traffic congestion caused by upcoming repairs on a major thoroughfare.
These measures include the implementation of free toll fees on Skyway Stage 3 and an odd-even number coding scheme on EDSA. The repairs are scheduled to begin on June 20th.
In addition to the toll waiver and number coding, the DOTr will deploy 100 additional EDSA Busway units and increase train frequency on the MRT-3 line to improve public transportation options.
The department will also focus on clearing and improving alternative routes to ease traffic flow. Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan stated that preparatory work will commence on June 13th, with actual excavation beginning a week later.
The free toll on Skyway Stage 3 aims to encourage motorists to utilize this alternative route, thereby reducing the volume of traffic on EDSA during the repair period.
The odd-even scheme will further regulate the number of private vehicles on EDSA, prioritizing public transportation and minimizing congestion.
The DOTr’s comprehensive approach combines infrastructure adjustments, enhanced public transport capacity, and improved alternative routes to manage the anticipated traffic disruption effectively. The department aims to minimize inconvenience to commuters and motorists during the road repair project.
