THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has confiscated a deer head and five pairs of antlers from a Canadian national arriving at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 in Pasay City on Friday, July 10.
The discovery was made during a routine inspection of the passenger’s luggage, prompting authorities to immediately take possession of the items as part of standard customs and wildlife regulations procedures.
According to officials, the traveler stated that the items were meant to be given as gifts. However, the shipment was seized because the passenger failed to present the required import permit and necessary documentation to legally bring wildlife parts into the country.
Under Philippine laws and international agreements, the transport and entry of animal trophies and body parts require proper authorization to prevent illegal wildlife trade and ensure compliance with conservation rules.
The confiscated items are currently being held for documentation and further verification. DENR authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the species of deer involved, its country of origin, and whether the transport violated any local or international environmental regulations.
The case also serves as a reminder to all travelers that bringing wildlife products across borders requires prior approval, and failure to comply may result in seizure, fines, or other legal penalties.
