THE suspects involved in the theft of Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chair George Garcia’s bag have been arrested, and the bag has been recovered.
Garcia reported that the Philippine National Police (PNP) contacted him to inform him that his belongings had been recovered and would be returned to him.
“Everything in the bag has been recovered—the suspects have been arrested. The contents included a small amount of money, my ATM cards, Landbank card, national ID, which I worked hard to get, and my cellphone.
All of this has been recovered and will be returned to me by the PNP,” Garcia said. Garcia explained that he and his companions had come from a Senate hearing and proceeded to a restaurant in Pasay.
They did not notice that about six individuals had followed them into the restaurant. His bag was placed on a chair, and in the midst of conversation, they did not realize that he had been targeted by “salisi” thieves.
Authorities conducted a swift follow-up operation and quickly traced the suspects, who were arrested in Cavite. Garcia affirmed that he will press charges against the suspects to prevent them from repeating their crimes and victimizing others.
It was discovered that the suspects have a history of arrests and have been engaging in this type of theft for a long time. Garcia expressed his gratitude for the swift action taken by the authorities.
