CIDG files charges vs 97 individuals over violent anti-corruption rallies

admin November 3, 2025

THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has filed charges against at least 97 individuals in connection with violent incidents that occurred during the anti-corruption rallies on September 21, according to CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico on Monday.

Morico announced in a press briefing at Camp Crame that the charges were filed last Tuesday before the Department of Justice and involve violations of the Revised Penal Code, specifically Articles 136, 139, and 142.

These articles pertain to conspiracy and proposal to commit rebellion or insurrection, sedition, and inciting to sedition, respectively. When asked about the identities of the respondents, Morico stated, “The instigators, including yung mga nagfu-fund and those who are behind the planning. Ongoing yung investigation natin. Walang sisinuhin.” (The instigators, including those who funded it and those who are behind the planning. Our investigation is ongoing. No one will be spared.)

The announcement follows a previous statement by Morico last Thursday that the CIDG was filing charges against 40 persons. To clarify the discrepancy, Philippine National Police (PNP) public information chief Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño explained that the cases against the 97 individuals are separate from any potential cases against the 40 persons previously mentioned. The CIDG’s investigation remains ongoing, with authorities vowing to hold all those responsible for the violence accountable.
