THE Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said that another suspect has been arrested in the attempted killing of a tabloid photojournalist in June last year.
Suspect Jomari Campillo, 25, a resident of Makati City and the district’s No. 9 most wanted person, has been arrested over his alleged role in the June 29, 2023 ambush on Joshua Abiad, an online photographer of Remate, and his relatives, which left them injured and killed a young boy.
Campillo was first arrested on July 14, 2023, for violation of the firearm law but he was released after posting bail.
He was rearrested on Tuesday on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court for frustrated murder.
His alleged conspirators were also charged with murder and three counts of frustrated murder for their participation in the ambush that wounded Abiad’s relatives and killed his four-year-old nephew.
Investigation showed that the victims were ambushed by five men while their car was passing Corumi Street in Barangay Masambong. On July 7, 2023, police arrested Eduardo Almario Legazpi II, a “professional shooter,” in connection with the crime.
