THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) anticipates a significant surge in holiday travel this year, with approximately seven million Filipinos expected to utilize the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and various seaports nationwide.
This projection includes a substantial three million passengers at PITX alone, according to DOTr Executive Assistant Jonathan Gesmundo.
Seaports are projected to handle four million passengers through the first two weeks of January 2025. This year’s forecast surpasses last year’s PITX passenger count of 2.6 million, attributed to the increased number of consecutive long weekends.
To manage the influx, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has extended special permits for public utility vehicles until January 10, 2025, and railway systems have also extended their operating hours. T
he Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is also collaborating to ensure smooth travel.
