3 killed, 17 injured in Commonwealth Avenue road accident

admin April 30, 2024

Three persons, one of them a minor, died while 17 others were hurt in a road accident involving a passenger bus and seven other vehicles along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Monday night, April 29.

Members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Sector 5 identified the bus driver as Rolly Canapi Pascua, 42, a resident of Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City.

The vehicles involved in the accident were a passenger bus, a Utility Vehicle express van, a taxi, and five motorcycles.

The collision occurred along Commonwealth Avenue corner Fairlane St. in Barangay Greater Fairview, Quezon City at around 9:37 p.m.

Police report said the passenger bus was seen traveling along Commonwealth Avenue towards Elliptical Road.

Upon reaching Fairlane St. in Barangay Greater Fairview, the bus’ brakes malfunctioned. As a result, it collided with two motorcycles before crashing into the UV Express van. The bus continued moving forward and collided with three more motorcycles and a taxi.

The collision damaged the motorcycles and other vehicles involved, while victims were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.

The arrested driver will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple damage to property with multiple physical injuries and multiple homicide, police said.

Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, QCPD chief,  extended his condolences to the families of the victims and reminded motorists, particularly drivers of public transportation, to check their vehicles before traveling.

“Nakikiramay ang kapulisan sa pagkamatay ng tatlong biktima at hangad namin ang agarang paggaling ng iba pang mga biktima na nasugatan. Muli kaming nagpapaalala sa mga nagmamaneho na mag-ingat at ugaliing suriin ang sasakyan bago bumyahe upang maiwasan ang ganitong mga insidente.”
