3 injured as 7 electrical posts collapse in Binondo

admin August 3, 2023

AT least three people were hurt when seven electrical posts fell in Binondo, Manila on Thursday afternoon.

The incident is still being investigated said the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and Manila Fire District.

Acting Mayor Yul Servo Nieto also inspected the site at 1pm. He is joined by Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office Director Arnel Angeles and Manila Fire District FSSUPT Christine Doctor-Cula.

As of this writing, three victims were reported to have minor injuries and are currently in the hospital.

According to Meralco, electricity is currently being shut off for the safety of the responders and the residents in the area.

Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan is closely monitoring the situation through the Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto and other departments of the city government.

The incident was reported at 12:41 p.m. at the corner of Ongpin Street and Quintin Paredes Road near the Binondo Church. Some electrical posts fell on parked cars, but most ended up blocking the roads.

“Agad naman rumesponde ang aming mga crew sa site. Kasalukuyan kaming nakikipag-ugnayan sa mga awtoridad at nagsasagawa ng imbestigasyon para matukoy ang naging sanhi ng insidente. Base sa inisyal na impormasyon, wala namang naapektuhang serbisyo ng kuryente,” Meralco’s Head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga said in a statement.

“Inaasikaso na rin ng Meralco ang mga nadamay at naapektuhan ng insidente particular sa aspeto ng property damage. Humihingi ako ng pag-unawa at pasensya sa abalang naidulot ng insidenteng ito.”
