TWO children, initially reported missing following a fire in Sta. Mesa, Manila on Monday, were found dead that evening.
The fire, which broke out in Barangay 628 around 4 p.m., quickly spread due to the light construction materials of the houses and strong winds. An explosion also occurred during the blaze.
A witness recounted hearing screams about smoke emerging from a house before she rescued her grandson and escaped. The fire caused significant damage, affecting approximately 100 families and damaging several school buildings and vehicles.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, which reached a fourth alarm.
The Bureau of Fire Protection Manila reported two injuries in addition to the two fatalities.
