PERSONS with Disabilities (PWDs) in Manila are now guaranteed opportunities to work as tellers in Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations, thanks to a new initiative by the local government.
The program was launched following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the city government and the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the rail line operator. Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso, Manila Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Acting Manager John Hiroshi F. Umeda, Jr., and LRMC CEO Enrico Abec Benipayo signed the MOA, which aims to provide dedicated employment for PWD residents.
The MOA signing took place during the Manila PESO Mega Job Fair held at SM Manila, an event the city hailed as a significant step toward a more inclusive Manila where employment opportunities are accessible to all sectors of the population. This initiative builds upon President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive in July to increase discounts to 50% for PWDs, senior citizens, and students on the LRT-1, LRT-2, and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3). A special white beep card is available for these eligible passengers, providing an automatic 50% discount until 2028.
