OFW Party List Rep. Marissa ‘Del Mar’ Magsino joined the “Pistang Pinoy sa Korea 2024” to celebrate the 126th Philippine Independence, 29th National Migrant Workers Day, and the 75th Philippine-Korean Diplomatic Relations in Bussan, South Korea.
In her speech, she highlighted the crucial role of OFWs in maintaining the country’s economic stability. She noted that 67,000 Filipinos reside in South Korea, with 34,154 being OFWs who remitted USD 834.74 million in 2023 – a great contribution to our nation.
Magsino emphasized that OFWs act as ambassadors of goodwill, strengthening Philippine-Korean relations. She discussed her legislative measures including the filing of House Resolution No. 1343 to protect Filipino seasonal farm workers under the Seasonal Workers Program (SWP) between Philippine LGUs and South Korean LGUs, and announced that interim guidelines have been by the DMW in response to ensure SWP workers’ welfare.
She also shared updates on the Overseas Electronic Registration and Voting Bill and the Magna Carta for Filipino Seafarers. Additionally, she introduced the upcoming OFW App, a digital platform that will provide urgent services and support to OFWs.
Recognizing the challenges faced by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), Magsino assured kababayans that she will collaborate closely with South Korean government officials and Philippine Embassy officials, led by Hon. Ma. Theresa Dizon-de Vega to always ensure that OFWs are respected and well-treated in the host country.
