THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced on Tuesday that it will issue a show-cause order to the bus company involved in a multi-vehicle collision along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Valenzuela City on Monday evening.
LTFRB spokesperson Atty. Ariel Inton, in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, stated that the order is in line with the directive of Secretary Vince Dizon. The accident involved the bus changing lanes and colliding with a closed van and a dump truck.
Two of the bus’s forty passengers sustained injuries. Atty. Inton confirmed that the LTFRB is currently investigating whether the bus company has been involved in previous accidents, but so far, no prior records have been found. He emphasized that issuing the show-cause order is the immediate next step following the incident.
Atty. Inton also used the opportunity to remind the public that passengers of public transport vehicles are covered by personal accident insurance in case of accidents. He clarified that hospital expenses will be covered by the insurance provider of the vehicle involved. Passengers were encouraged to seek medical attention to facilitate the claims process.
A strong warning was issued against riding colorum or unregistered vehicles, as these do not provide insurance coverage for passengers. Atty. Inton highlighted the safety risks associated with these vehicles, emphasizing the uncertainty regarding the professionalism and qualifications of their drivers.
