THE Kapatirang Siklistang Pilipino (KSP) will lead a large group of cyclists in their third annual “Bisikleta ni Pepe” campaign this Rizal Day (December 30th).
This year’s event combines a bike ride promoting firecracker safety (“Iwas Paputok”) with a community outreach program, distributing food and toys to children in Marikina City’s underprivileged communities.
The ride will begin at 6:30 AM at the parking area behind Marikina City Hall. Participating groups include Manila Siklista Pilipino, Mandaluyong SP, Kabitenyo SP, San Juan SP, Taguig-Pateros SP, Valenzuela SP, Rizal SP, SP Pasiguenyo, and SP Tropang-Itik. Zosimo Forte, a KSP founder and organizer of “Bikers for Leni,” stated that they’ve also invited individual cyclists and groups who participated in the 2022 “Bikers for Leni” campaign supporting former Vice President Leni Robredo.
Last year’s event saw 150 cyclists converging in Plaza Roma, Intramuros, distributing treats and toys to children in Barangay 105 (Happy Land) in Tondo. KSP members represent a diverse range of backgrounds, including bike enthusiasts, retirees, students, professionals, and community youth – many of whom were previously involved in “Bikers for Leni.” The group’s advocacy pillars include bike tourism, commuting, fitness, climate action, safety, and emergency response.
The KSP’s commitment to community engagement is noteworthy. Former Vice President Robredo acknowledged the significant role of “Bikers for Leni” in inspiring her presidential bid, noting the impressive turnout of cyclists across various regions of the Philippines.
A June 2023 Metro Manila event, focused on climate action, drew approximately 2,000 participants. This year’s Rizal Day event promises to be another impactful demonstration of the group’s dedication to both cycling and community support.
