THE defense must address the prosecution’s evidence showing that Vice President Sara Z. Duterte did not declare two alleged properties that would have been declared in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN), House lead prosecutor Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro said Sunday.
Luistro said two city assessors and a barangay captain subpoenaed by the defense are expected to address the prosecution’s findings on two properties acquired by Duterte’s husband, Manases Carpio, in Davao City and Samal, which the prosecution argues were not properly reflected in the vice president’s SALN.
“Our anticipation for the first witnesses on Monday, that includes city assessor of Davao, city assessor of Samal, and Barangay Captain of Matina, will dwell on the testimony of the Land Registration Authority,” Luistro said in an interview on dzBB’s “Bantay Balita sa Kongreso” with Nimfa Ravelo and Isa Avendaño Umali.
She recalled that the LRA presented copies of the titles and deeds of sale for the two properties, which the prosecution said did not match the declarations in Duterte’s SALN.
“I remember the copy of the titles were presented, and also the deeds of sale of these two properties, and they did not match with the declarations in the SALN. That is why the submission of the prosecution, these two properties are undeclared,” Luistro said.
One property is a 379-square-meter lot in Barangay Matina, Davao City, which Carpio acquired in 2024 for P6 million. The other is a 751-square-meter lot in Barangay Matanos, Samal, which he acquired in 2018 for P3.45 million.
During the LRA officials’ testimony, the prosecution argued that neither property could be matched with Duterte’s SALN entries based on the documents’ details, including their location, price and mode of acquisition.
The defense, however, disputed the findings by presenting tax declarations that it said corresponded to the two properties.
