FORMER Sen. Antonio “Sonny” F. Trillanes IV has received a subpoena from the House Committee on Justice directing him to appear at the April 22 impeachment hearing and submit documents tied to allegations of unexplained wealth against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte.
The subpoena ad testificandum et duces tecum, issued by the House Committee on Justice, directed Trillanes to attend the hearing at 10 a.m. at the 2nd Floor of the People Center and to bring documents on or before the same date and time.
Under the order, Trillanes is required to produce “original or certified true copies of documents in connection with the allegations in the impeachment complaints of unexplained wealth, which Vice President Sara Z. Duterte failed to reflect in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities, & Net Worth.”
The subpoena also lays out the purpose of his testimony, directing him “to testify that Rodrigo Duterte, jointly with his daughter, Vice President Sara Z. Duterte maintained numerous accounts where hundreds of millions, if not billions, of pesos were deposited/transferred over the years, and other related matters.”
The directive was issued in connection with the verified impeachment complaints filed against the Vice President and endorsed by several lawmakers.
The document states that Trillanes may be accompanied by legal counsel during the proceedings, but such counsel will be limited to an advisory role and “shall not be permitted to speak or otherwise participate in the proceedings.”
The subpoena was signed by Committee on Justice chairperson Rep. Gerville “Jinky Bitrics” Luistro of Batangas, with Deputy Speaker Alfredo “Albee” Benitez signing for Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III. It was attested by Secretary General Cheloy Garafil.
The House panel continues its hearings to determine probable cause in the impeachment complaints against Duterte.
