HOUSE prosecutors will move beyond the financial performance of companies linked to Vice President Sara Z. Duterte and seek to establish whether she had any other lawful sources of income capable of explaining the alleged increase in her declared net worth.
“So we will also go into other parts, like let’s say, are there any other sources of income that may have contributed to the growth of her net worth?” House Impeachment Prosecutor and Bukidnon Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores disclosed in an interview on One News’ Morning Matters Thursday.
“Ipapakita din namin na walang other sources of income. So paano siya nag-increase at paano lumobo?” he added.
The prosecution is building Article II by comparing Duterte’s declared wealth with government salary, corporate records, business earnings, tax information and other financial evidence.
Her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) presented during the trial showed her declared net worth rising from P7.25 million when she entered public office in 2007 to about P98.66 million in 2025.
The Senate has limited the use of records predating Duterte’s vice presidency to establishing a financial baseline, with the impeachable conduct at issue required to relate to her tenure as Vice President.
“We will not end there. ’Yun pa lang ’yung basis namin na ito ’yung corporations, ito ’yung na-declare, ito ’yung income at kinita ng mga corporation,” Flores explained.
Recent Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) testimony showed no declared dividends in the records reviewed for several corporations linked through Duterte’s and her husband’s wealth declarations, while a number of the companies reported financial losses.
Flores described the corporate evidence as one block in a larger financial picture that prosecutors intend to connect as the Article II presentation continues.
“For unexplained wealth, ang na-establish ko lang so far, we’re trying to build it by blocks, kasi, you know, we’re trying to present this part, that part, but it will all be connected later on,” Flores explained.
“But what has been clearly established is that the corporations declared by the Vice President in her SALN have not been doing well financially. I mean, most of them were declaring losses, and these are the corporations that were declared by the Vice President in her SALN,” he maintained.
The prosecution will still have to establish through competent evidence that Duterte’s lawful income and other legitimate sources were insufficient to account for the wealth being questioned, while the defense retains the opportunity to offer its own explanation and financial evidence.
