BANK and tax records expected to be presented in Vice President Sara Z. Duterte’s impeachment trial this coming week could help determine whether former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV’s claims concerning the alleged unexplaiend wealth of the Vice President and her husband have factual basis, House prosecution spokesman Jay Tolosa said Saturday.
Tolosa, who is also a private counsel for the panel of House prosecutors, told Saturday News Forum at Dapo Restaurant in Quezon City that for the whole-day proceedings this coming week, the prosecution’s witnesses would be mainly those from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), banks and financial institutions, and Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
“And I’m sure ang in-expect ng mga tao in relation to what we heard yesterday (Friday) sa naging press conference ni Sen. Trillanes, he mentioned some bank transactions (of the Vice President and her husband Manases Carpio),” he said.
He said people could check if those transactions would match the bank and financial records that would be presented by the prosecution next week.
“So abangan natin dito sa mga maririnig natin sa mga parating na testigo natin at makikita natin sa mga record kung ito hong mga financial transactions na ito ay magmamatch doon sa mga narinig natin (kay dating Senator Trillanes),” he said.
In his news conference, the former senator alleged that the Vice President had time deposits in local currency and in US dollars in 2007 and 2008 which she supposedly did not declare in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).
He also claimed the Chinese government and Chinese companies allegedly remitted a total of P319 million to Cale88, a business entity partly owned by Carpio, and supposedly donated P150 million to the Vice President’s Tapang at Malasakit Foundation.
Trillanes likewise alleged that the Dutertes received a total of P181 million from suspected drug lord Sammy Uy.
During the House hearing on the impeachment complaints against the Vice President, the Anti-Money Laundering Council confirmed 19 bank transactions Trillanes attributed to the Dutertes.
