HOUSE impeachment spokesperson Zia Alonto Adiong asserted Friday that the evidence against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte comes directly from her own official documents, financial records, and actions — not from a contrived political narrative.
“There is no story that did not come from the Office of the Vice President’s own files,” Adiong emphasized. “The Vice President herself made the threats; no one else spoke them — they are there for everyone to see.” The remarks referred to the statements that formed the basis of the now‑withdrawn Article IV, involving publicly recorded comments about President Marcos, the First Lady, and former Speaker Romualdez, while a separate grave threats case remains pending before a Quezon City court.
Adiong further traced the confidential funds allegations directly to instructions he said originated from Duterte, and Article II — the sole remaining charge — to her own Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth, bank accounts, AMLC reports, tax returns, and corporate records.
“No one else filed those SALNs. No one else opened those accounts. No one else engaged in transactions flagged as suspicious by the AMLC but the Vice President herself,” he stated. He also noted that she did not divest her business interests upon taking office, a requirement under the Constitution.
The defense has contested the prosecution’s reading of these records and will present its own evidence when the trial resumes on November 9. Adiong concluded that the common thread running through the entire case is Duterte’s own conduct and documentation: “She signed them. She created the accounts. She entered the transactions. She is the one who failed to divest upon election — these are matters of record, not invention.”
