HOUSE trial spokesperson Zia Alonto Adiong of Lanao del Sur has challenged Vice President Sara Z. Duterte to produce documents explaining the alleged financial discrepancies flagged by the prosecution, saying the ₱463.05-million estimate that remains after excluding corporate-income amounts still requires an explanation.
Alonto Adiong discussed the financial records of Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases “Mans” Carpio, as he presented a calculation that excluded amounts attributed to their business interests.
“Again, the vice president should need to explain kasi kailangan po natin ay resibo,” he said.
The revised computation puts the amount at ₱463,046,459, based on the prosecution expert’s report after corporate-income amounts were excluded.
“Meron pong P463,046,459 ang dapat na ma-explain ng vice president,” Alonto Adiong said.
The figure is part of the prosecution’s broader allegation of unexplained wealth involving the couple from 2022 to 2025. It is an expert estimate based on available financial records, not a final judicial finding.
The ₱463.05-million amount also includes a ₱111.85-million discrepancy between identified personal-account inflows and declared income. That component should not be added to the total again, as doing so would double-count the same amount.
“So naging conservative pa tayo dyan. Naging conservative pa si Atty. Cabrera,” Alonto Adiong said.
Financial forensic analyst Atty. Alexander Cabrera’s original report estimated ₱817.87 million in allegedly undeclared assets and income. The report covered cash, other personal and real properties, undeclared income, and amounts attributed to the couple’s business interests.
By excluding the corporate-income amounts, the prosecution’s calculation focuses on the remaining personal financial records and assets.
Alonto Adiong said Duterte should provide supporting documents to account for the questioned amounts, including the sources of the money and how the assets were acquired and declared.
“Yung resibo ang nagpapatunay na ipinalik mo ang tiwala sa taong bayan,” he said.
He asked Duterte to identify the source of the money and explain how the questioned amount had accumulated.
“Saan po nang galing ito at paano po kayo naka-accumulate ng ganitong kahalagang pera?” Alonto Adiong asked.
The prosecution is pursuing Article II of the impeachment case, which concerns allegations of unexplained wealth, inaccurate asset declarations and prohibited business interests. Duterte has denied wrongdoing, while her defense has challenged the prosecution’s findings.
The Senate impeachment trial is scheduled to resume on November 9, when the defense is expected to begin presenting its evidence, subject to the court’s resolution of the prosecution’s formal offer of evidence. (
