HOUSE trial spokesperson Zia Alonto Adiong on Sunday urged the Senate impeachment court to proceed with the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte immediately as the House prosecution panel prepares to file its pre-trial brief, the entry of appearance of the first batch of private prosecutors, and other pleadings this Monday ahead of the June 18 pre-trial conference.
Alonto Adiong said the House prosecution team remains focused on complying with all procedural requirements and presenting its case before the impeachment court.
“Kung may kaso, dinggin. Kung walang kaso, ibasura. Pero dapat tapusin ang proseso,” Alonto Adiong said.
Alonto Adiong stressed that the impeachment proceedings are not about political affiliations or personalities but about fulfilling a constitutional duty and allowing the truth to emerge through the proper process.
“Dinggin ang kaso. Alamin ang katotohanan. Wala po sanang delay,” he said.
According to Alonto Adiong, both the public and the parties involved deserve a fair, orderly, and expeditious resolution of the case based on evidence presented before the impeachment court.
“The Constitution provides a process for impeachment. That process should neither be short-circuited nor unnecessarily delayed. The Filipino people deserve clarity, accountability, and closure through the proper constitutional mechanism,” he said.
Alonto Adiong emphasized that the House prosecution panel is prepared for the next phase of the proceedings and remains committed to presenting its evidence before the Senate impeachment court.
“Hindi ito kampi-kampi. Usapin ito ng proseso,” he said.
“The Senate now sits not as a political body but as an impeachment court. Its duty is clear: hear the case, examine the evidence, and render judgment based on the facts and the Constitution,” he added.
The House prosecution panel is scheduled to file its pre-trial brief, the entry of appearance of the first batch of private prosecutors, and other motions in preparation for the June 18 pre-trial conference.
“We are ready to do our part. We trust that the impeachment court will do its part as well. Let the proceedings move forward. Let the evidence be heard. Let the truth come out,” Adiong said.
“The worst outcome is not a conviction or an acquittal. The worst outcome is refusing to complete the process that the Constitution itself requires. The Filipino people deserve no less,” Alonto Adiong said.
