SENATOR Imee Marcos has announced her withdrawal from the administration’s Senate slate, citing a desire to protect her younger brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., from potential risks and to shield her friends from harm.
In a press conference on Monday, Marcos expressed concern for her brother’s well-being, stating that he was already anxious about the potential consequences of her candidacy. She emphasized that standing alone, despite the challenges, would allow her to be “free and strong” to “cross the line, talk to all parties and get things done.”
Marcos acknowledged the difficulties associated with her decision, but maintained that it was necessary to ensure the safety of her brother and friends.
She also alluded to accusations of political opportunism, stating that she aims to be a bridge between different factions, a “tangway” (a bridge) where all parties can meet.
