GUSI Peace Prize International 2022 fellowship lunch and general alignment meeting last November 11, 2022 at Annapoorna Restaurant.
The Gusi Peace Prize is an award given by the Gusi Peace Prize Foundation, based in Manila, Philippines. It is referred to in Presidential Proclamation No. 1476 signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2008, declaring every fourth Wednesday of November as “Gusi Peace Prize International Friendship Day”.
International Gusi Peace Awards, dubbed as “Asia’s World Foremost” award giving body. The International event will be held on November 24 in Club Filipino in Greenhills, in furtherance of its mission to recognize individuals and organizations who contribute to global peace and progress through a wide variety of fields such as scientific discoveries, politics, academia, performing arts, literature, medicine, journalism, economics, humanities, physics, chemistry, religion, internationalism and others.
This Gusi Peace Prize was founded by its now chairman, Ambassador Barry Gusi and his wife, Dr. Evelyn Gusi in 2002. The reason behind establishment of this peace award was to continue the ancestral legacy of his father, as well as, to pay special tribute to Captain Gemeniano Javier Gusi (World War II Guerilla Warrior) who subsequently became a politician and a human rights activist in the Philippines. His work was subsequently supported and continued by his spouse, Madame Teodora Sotejo Gusi who established and moderated many charitable projects to help the persons in need including abused children and wives, sick and unemployed persons, humiliated individuals throughout the Philippines.
On the morning of November 23, a Wednesday, a wreath-laying ceremony and 21-gun salute will be staged at the Rizal Park. A formal dinner reception in honor or the awardees will be held in the same day at the Mella Hotel. The series of happenings shall culminate the next day with Gusi Peace Prize awarding ceremony at the Philippines’ first exclusive social club, the historic Club Filipino in Greenhills.
For 20 years the Gusi Peace Prize has been awarded to prominent individuals from all over the world who have made significant contributions to the betterment of humankind. The 2022 Gusi Peace Prize Laureates are: Hon. Nicole Pluss (Australia), Dr. Gustavo Oliveira ( Brazil), Dr. Dipu Moni (Bangladesh), Dr. Andrew Wong (China), Hon. Cecile De Caunes (France), Hon. Sunil Mehra ( India), Hon. Lorenzo David Overi (Italy), Dr. Shiojiri Kazuko (Japan), Hon. Arturas Zuokas (Lithuania), Dr. Haji Zulkifly Baharom (Malaysia), Hon. Saw Ngwe Lin (Myanmar), Hon. Per-Arild Konradsen (Norway), Hon. Chen Chien-Jen (Taiwan), Hon. Michael Cinco (Philippines), Gen. Mohammed Alijuhani (Saudi Arabia) and Dr. Luis Gallardo (Spain).
