AN 18-year-old Grade 11 student, Ren Joseph Bayan, died in Jaen, Nueva Ecija, on Sunday night, allegedly due to hazing.
According to police, Bayan’s aunt reported his death to the Jaen Municipal Police Station around 10:20 p.m. She stated that her nephew had informed her he was going to undergo a “final hazing” in San Leonardo town, facilitated by a fraternity. Witnesses reported seeing suspects carrying Bayan’s lifeless body to their residence in Barangay San Pablo, Jaen, around 5 p.m.
The Jaen police have requested the assistance of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) to conduct an autopsy and determine the cause of death.
San Pablo National High School, where Bayan was a student, expressed its grief and condolences to his family in a Facebook post. “The San Pablo National High School community deeply mourns the passing of one of our students, REN JOSEPH BAYAN of Grade 11-TVL,” the post stated. “SPNHS extends its heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, as well as fervent prayers that he may find peace and rest with the Almighty God.”
The police are currently investigating the incident and pursuing those responsible for Bayan’s death.
