PHILIPPINE Ambassador to the United States Babes Romualdez has confirmed that the United States has submitted an extradition request to the Philippine Department of Justice (DOJ) for Kingdom of Jesus Christ leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, who is currently detained in the Philippines.
Quiboloy faces several charges in the U.S., including child trafficking and money laundering.
However, Justice Secretary Boying Remulla stated that he has not yet received confirmation of the extradition request and will investigate the matter further.
DOJ spokesperson Asec. Mico Clavano explained that a person cannot be extradited from the Philippines while facing pending criminal charges in local courts due to local jurisdiction. However, the court has the authority to act on such cases with urgency.
Quiboloy is currently detained in the Philippines on charges of abuse and human trafficking. The Department of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the issue.
