admin October 29, 2025

THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, that the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC and the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Kingston are closely monitoring the situation in Jamaica. This comes as Category 5 Hurricane Melissa unleashes its force on the Caribbean country, where approximately 500 Filipinos reside.

The DFA has stated that the foreign service posts are actively working to ascertain the safety and well-being of the Filipino community in Jamaica. As of 5 a.m. Philippine time on October 29, there have been no reports of casualties or injuries among the Filipinos living in the affected areas.

The Philippine government remains committed to providing assistance and support to its citizens in Jamaica during this challenging time. The Embassy and Consulate are prepared to offer consular services and guidance as needed. The DFA will continue to provide updates on the situation as it unfolds.
