No Pinoys injured in hurricane Helene – PH Embassy in Washington

admin September 30, 2024

Over 60 dead in Hurricane Helene's wake; massive power outages reported across 5 US states.

THE Philippine Embassy in Washington has not received any reports of Filipinos affected by Hurricane Helene in the US southeast.

The embassy is closely monitoring the situation with the Philippine Honorary Consulates in Florida and Georgia and is prepared to provide any necessary assistance to affected Filipinos.

An estimated 300,000 Filipinos reside in areas affected by Hurricane Helene.

The hurricane, a Category 4 storm, made landfall in Perry, Florida, with winds up to 225 kilometers per hour.

It has severely affected the Big Bend region in Florida, as well as parts of Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas.

The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. urged Filipinos affected by Hurricane Helene to immediately contact the embassy or relevant authorities for assistance.

Search, rescue, and recovery operations continue as the death toll continues to rise.

The Philippine Embassy is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Florida and the Filipino and Filipino-American communities in these areas.

The embassy encourages everyone to stay informed by monitoring updates from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The embassy’s priority is the safety of Filipino nationals.  For consular emergencies requiring the embassy’s assistance, please call 202-368-2767 or 202-769-8049.
