DFA urges caution for Pinoys in US following Iran attacks

admin June 23, 2025

FOLLOWING the weekend attacks by US forces on Iranian nuclear sites, Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez is urging Filipinos residing in the United States to remain vigilant.

In a Super Radyo dzBB interview on Monday, Ambassador Romualdez highlighted the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that this marks the first time the US has deployed its “special bomb” against another country.

He stressed the need for heightened awareness among Filipinos in the US, urging them to heed any safety advisories issued by local authorities.

The ambassador’s call for caution comes in response to alerts issued by US authorities following President Trump’s announcement of the attacks.

While not explicitly advising Filipinos to avoid specific locations like subways, Ambassador Romualdez strongly recommended exercising caution and remaining alert to potential unforeseen consequences stemming from the escalating Middle East conflict. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that Filipinos should be prepared for any eventuality.

This advisory follows the Philippine government’s broader plea for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions to the crisis. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) expressed deep concern over the recent developments, particularly given the significant number of Filipino workers in the Middle East.

The DFA’s concern is further underscored by reports from the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, which confirmed that eight Filipinos were injured amidst the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, with seven already released from the hospital. The situation remains fluid, and the DFA continues to monitor events closely.
