THE Maui Police Department has identified the A 70-year-old Filipina as one of the four bodies recovered from Lahaina wildfire in Hawaii in August of last year.
According to the Maui Coroners Office’s DNA test, Lydia Coloma was among the 29 Filipino and Filipino-American casualties in the disaster. She died together with her husband Salvador Coloma and seven other relatives after being trapped in the fire on Maui Island.
Coloma’s seven other relatives were first identified by the police through DNA testing.
“It is with a heavy heart that the County of Maui and the Maui Police Department confirm the following identity of a victim involved in the West Maui Wildfire incident. Our hearts go out to the families, friends, and community affected by this devastating event,” the Maui Police said in a statement.
Coloma is the 100th casualty of the wildfire.
The Lahaina fire was one of three major wildfires on Maui that were fueled by dry conditions, a buildup of fuel and 60 mile-per-hour (100 km per hour) gusts of wind.
