MOTORISTS can expect lower fuel prices this week, marking the second consecutive week of rollbacks. Major fuel retailers, including Chevron Philippines Inc. (Caltex), Seaoil Philippines Corp., Shell Pilipinas Corp., and Cleanfuel, announced price reductions effective Tuesday, April 15th.
Gasoline prices will decrease by ₱3.60 per liter, diesel by ₱2.90 per liter, and kerosene by ₱3.30 per liter (excluding Cleanfuel, which does not sell kerosene). Cleanfuel’s price adjustments will begin at 8:01 a.m., while others will take effect at 6:00 a.m.
The Department of Energy-Oil Industry Management Bureau (DOE-OIMB) attributed the rollbacks to escalating US-China trade tensions, anticipated Saudi Arabian crude oil production cuts, and increased output from OPEC.
Last week saw smaller reductions of ₱0.10 per liter for gasoline and ₱0.50 per liter for kerosene. As of April 8th, 2025, year-to-date net increases stand at ₱4.55 per liter for gasoline, ₱4.45 per liter for diesel, and ₱0.40 per liter for kerosene. While these latest decreases offer some relief, significant year-to-date increases remain.
