LAS PINAS Representative Camille Villar celebrated the strength and resilience of women during the recent general assembly of the Serbisyong Tama Kababaihan (STK) in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
Villar, in a speech, hailed how women can competently multi-task, a skill that they develop as they raise families while they run businesses or go to work.
“Ganyan talaga katibay ang mga kababaihan. Tayong mga kababaihan, aminin ninyo, makakapag-trabaho, makakapag-patakbo ng negosyo o anumang industriya, habang napapatakbo ng maayos ang bahay at namomonitor ang mga anak, tama di po ba? Yung iba nga diyan, makakapagluto pa pag-uwi ng bahay, o makakapag-turo pa ng assignment ng mga anak,” she said.
“Ganyan po tayo kagaling mag-multi-tasking na mga kababaihan. Palakpakan po natin ang isa’t isa,” added Villar, a deputy speaker at the House of Representatives while also serving as the CEO of ALL Value Group and managing director of Vista Land.
Villar likewise highlighted the roles that women play.
“Bilang may-bahay, bilang ina sa ating mga anak, bilang kaibigan at tagapagtaguyod sa ating komunidad, napakahalaga po ng tungkulin natin bilang ilaw hindi lamang ng tahanan kungdi maging ng ating mga komunidad,” she said.
Villar has filed several bills at the House of Representatives pushing for more government programs to promote the welfare of women.
These include House Bill No. 5684 proposing sanctions against health institutions, hospitals, or maternity lying-in clinics that refuse to admit or give assistance to expecting mothers who are about to give birth; House Resolution No. 1025 calling for the enactment of a law that would strengthen and ensure that pregnant mothers would have easier access to health care services and programs to address maternal problems; and HBN 9810 seeking the approval of the proposed Women’s Business Enterprise Act that would promote the interest of and enhance the entrepreneurial skills of Filipino women.
She has also urged the government to intensify its early detection programs and promote easier access to preventive screening against breast cancer amid the prevalence of the most common cancer among women in the country. A measure calling for the establishment of a special assistance fund dedicated for cancer patients, particularly the indigents and underprivileged Filipinos, was also authored by Villar.
Villar has also been holding a yearly “Buntis Congress” and “Nanay Fair” in Las Piñas, where she gives assistance to mothers, especially first-time mothers.
She likewise has an ongoing project that provides financial and medical assistance to poor pregnant women in her district during their pregnancy.
