THE House of Representatives is celebrating Philippine Creative Industries Month this September with “Aklat Fiesta,” a three-day book fair highlighting Filipino literature and the writers, publishers, and other creatives who bring Filipino stories to life.
The event was organized by the House Special Committee on Creative Industries, chaired by Negros Occidental Rep. Javi Benitez, in collaboration with the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and with the support of the House Legislative Information Resources Management Department (LIRMD).
Special Committee on Creative Industries Vice Chairperson Quezon City Rep. Juan Carlos “Arjo” Atayde said the book fair goes beyond promoting and selling books, as it also provides an opportunity to recognize the Filipino creatives behind Philippine literature and the stories that reflect the country’s culture, experiences, and identity.
“By giving our Filipino creators a space to be seen, we are doing more than supporting an industry. We are helping keep our stories alive,” Atayde said.
As Philippine Creative Industries Month draws to a close, Atayde called for sustained support for Filipino writers, artists, publishers, and other creatives throughout the year.
He described the end of the month-long celebration as a “bookmark, not a full stop,” stressing that there will always be more Filipino stories to tell, voices to hear, and pages to turn.
“Filipino creativity should not be celebrated for only one month. It should be something we continue to support, appreciate, and make space for every day,” Atayde said.
“Aklat Fiesta,” which features works by Filipino authors from local publishers, runs from September 28 to 30, 2026 at the Legislative Library, Archives and Museum Building of the House of Representatives.
