NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur- Luis ‘Chavit’ Singson, the billionaire mayor of this town and president of League of Municipalities of the Philippines, revealed the other day that he has purchased two sophisticated fighter jets from United States and will give it to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
In a one-on-one interview with this writer inside his seaside mansion here, Singson said the two fighter jets he had ordered from the US had been approved by the American government after getting the nod from the AFP.
“This is the most sophisticated fighter jets so far as it is equipped with high frequency radar that can monitor and detect a submarine as far as 2,000 kilometers away,” pointed out Singson. According to Singson, he prepared a lot of documents and permits from the national government before the US approved his purchase of the two state-of-the art figther jets.
He said the US government required the AFP to make a formal request (for the purchase of Chavit) before the US approved the selling of the figther jets.
“This includes the maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) as there is no trainer in the country of such hi-tech fighter jets,” pointed out Singson.
According to Singson, the fighter jets were a combined US and South Korea technology and is the most expensive figther jets invented so far.
He did not reveal its actual price.
Earlier, Singson donated 44 assault rifles to the Department of National Defense. “These assault rifles were made of aluminum and equipped with night visions and telescopes,” said Singson.
In the same interview, Singson also told this writer that he will donate P15 billion from his personal wealth to the Filipino people, claiming he cannot bring his wealth ‘upstairs’ once he died.
The political kingpin added that he did not join politics anymore to erase suspicion that he was donating these due to politics.
