ACTRESS Rufa Mae Quinto voluntarily surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday in connection with the case involving Dermacare-Beyond Skin Care Solutions.
Quinto is expected to post bail amounting to P1.7 million and is likely to be released on the same day.
In a statement on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” her lawyer, Atty. Mary Louise Reyes, confirmed their ongoing coordination with the NBI for the voluntary surrender and bail process. Reyes emphasized Quinto’s commitment to the legal process, urging the public to refrain from premature judgment based on incomplete information.
Quinto is facing 14 counts of violating Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code, which prohibits the sale of unregistered securities in the Philippines without prior approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). However, Reyes clarified that her client is not being charged with large-scale estafa.
The case stems from Quinto’s involvement as an endorser of Dermacare-Beyond Skin Care Solutions, a company flagged by the SEC in September 2023 for unauthorized fund-raising. The SEC advisory stated that Dermacare was not registered or licensed to sell securities, exposing endorsers, sales agents, and promoters to potential legal action.
