A RESOLUTION honoring actress Jaclyn Jose, who died of a heart attack on Saturday morning was filed in the Senate.
Senator Jinggoy Estrada proposed Senate Resolution 942, which expresses the profound sympathy and sincere condolences of the Senate of the Philippines on the death of Jose, whose real name was Mary Jane Guck.
In his resolution, Estrada said “Jaclyn Jose has proven to be a versatile and hardworking actress… known as the ‘Queen of Under Acting’ for her distinctive and exceptional ‘no acting style of acting’ which captivated audiences. Jaclyn Jose’s sterling acting career spanned four decades, inspiring generations of actors and film enthusiasts.”
“Her acting prowess, profound portrayals of different characters, and depth as an actress truly made an indelible mark in the country’s entertainment industry. Jaclyn Jose brought life to her roles, making them feel real and relatable, transcending borders, and touching the hearts of those who watched,” the senator added.
Estrada’s resolution highlighted Jose’s historic win at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, clinching the Best Actress award for her performance in Brillante Mendoza’s “Ma Rosa.”
“This remarkable Cannes’ win paved the way for the filing of Senate Bill No. 1032 or the proposed World-Class Filmmakers’ Incentives Act, which seeks to promote the production of world-class Filipino films by granting tax perks,” the senator added.
Further, Estrada honored Jose for her “significant contributions” to the film and television industry, particularly in her roles in Takaw Tuso (1987), Itanong Mo Sa Buwan (1989), Flor Contemplacion Story (1995), Mula sa Puso (1997-1998), Sarong Banggi (2006), Serbis (2008), Patay na si Hesus (2016), and Kalel,15 (2019), among others.
