Mayor Vico Sotto, actress Ivana Alawi test positive for Covid-19

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and actress Ivana Alawi.

PASIG City Mayor Vico Sotto and actress/vlogger Ivana Alawi both tested positive for Covid-19.

Sotto on Saturday announced that he tested positive for COVID-19.

In a Facebook post, Sotto revealed that he has a sore throat, a fever, and body aches.

“Hi everyone, bad news, I’ve tested positive for COVID-19. I have sore throat, fever, and body aches, but please don’t worry! I’ll continue to work remotely while in isolation for the next 7 days,” he said.

The mayor recalled that he did not catch the virus even during several “close calls” with the highly transmissible Delta variant.

He then urged the public to remain vigilant and follow minimum health protocols amid rising COVID-19 infections.

“Matindi talaga ang pagkalat ng Omicron– sabi nga ng ibang eksperto, LAHAT TAYO ay mae-expose sa variant na ito. Kaya lagi po tayong mag-iingat, palakasin natin ang ating nga resistensya, at maging responsable – kung may sintomas wag na munang lumabas,” he added.

Meanwhile, Alawi is the latest addition to the list of celebrities who have contracted the coronavirus at the start of 2022.

Alawi said, she, her mother and brother Hash, tested positive for COVID-19 despite strictly following health measures since the start of the pandemic.

In her recent vlog, Alawi revealed her quarantine and share how her family battles the virus.

Alawi could not help but be sad for testing positive. According to her, in the last two years, she had been negative in all of her swab tests.

“Nagulat ako kasi sobrang maingat [kami]. Naka-vaccine na kami. Di ako lumalabas ng bahay,” she explained.

She even prohibited herself from going to some parties with friends, knowing that the virus is still present anywhere.

First to test positive in their household was her mother, who also suffered symptoms including difficulty in breathing. She immediately isolated herself after the result in her antigen test.

The Alawi family also underwent RT-PCR tests after their mom contracted the coronavirus but turned out negative.

However, two days after, Ivana started to have head and body aches which prompted her to get tested again.

This time, she turned positive. Later on, Hash was also confirmed to be carrying the virus.

Mona, who has been battling with other diseases, has remained negative.
