TELEVISION host-actress Kim Chiu has taken a painful step, filing a qualified theft complaint against her sister, Lakambini Chiu, after uncovering significant financial discrepancies within their shared business venture.
The complaint was filed at the Office of the Assistant City Prosecutor in Quezon City, with Kim accompanied by her legal counsels Xylene Dolor and Archernar Gregana, as well as her sister Twinkle and brother-in-law.
“Today, Kim filed a criminal case against Lakambini Chiu,” Dolor confirmed. “We filed a criminal complaint for qualified theft. That’s all we can share for now.” While the specific business was not disclosed, it is rumored to be Kim’s bag business, a venture well-known to her fans.
The legal action covers financial irregularities discovered in 2025, with Lakambini reportedly holding a management role within the business. According to Dolor, Kim made numerous attempts to resolve the issue internally before resorting to legal action. “She reached out and the lawyers reached out also. But it has been a very difficult decision for her to do this and to proceed with this step.”
In a statement released on Monday, Kim emphasized the difficult nature of her decision, citing the need for transparency, accountability, and the protection of her company and its employees.
“After careful consideration and months of internal review, I have made the difficult decision to file a legal case for qualified theft against my sister, Lakambini Chiu… This decision did not come easily. It is one of the most painful steps I have ever taken in my life,” Kim stated. When asked by ABS-CBN News how she was coping, Kim managed only two words: “Sobrang bigat” (Extremely heavy).
