MAMAMAYANG Liberal Partylist Representative Leila de Lima, in collaboration with actress and advocate Nadine Lustre, is set to file a series of legislative measures aimed at promoting plant-based health programs, environmental protection, and strengthened animal welfare laws.
The filing will take place at 9:00 AM tomorrow, February 10th.
De Lima and Lustre are joining forces with several organizations committed to these causes. These include Plant-Based Treaty, PETA Philippines, PAWS (Philippine Animal Welfare Society), Animal Kingdom Foundation, CARA Welfare Philippines, and Biyaya Animal Care. The coalition reflects a broad spectrum of support for initiatives that prioritize both human and animal well-being, as well as the health of the planet.
The proposed legislative measures are expected to address key areas such as access to plant-based options in public institutions, incentives for sustainable agriculture, and stricter penalties for animal cruelty. By establishing a plant-based health program, the initiative seeks to promote healthier lifestyles and reduce the burden of diet-related diseases. The environmental protection measures will likely focus on mitigating climate change and preserving biodiversity.
The move signals a growing recognition of the interconnectedness between human health, environmental sustainability, and animal welfare in the Philippines. The coalition hopes that these legislative efforts will pave the way for a more compassionate and sustainable future for the country.
