CRISTY Fermin has posted bail following the issuance of an arrest warrant in connection with Bea Alonzo’s cyber libel complaint.
Fermin, along with co-host Wendell Alvarez, secured bail at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 93. Rommel Villamor, the third co-accused, is reportedly arranging to post bail.
Fermin stated that while the warrant was issued on July 21, they only received it on July 30, adding that she would have surrendered voluntarily had there been no delay. Her legal counsel, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, confirmed that preparations for her defense are underway. The bail amount is set at P48,000 each, reflecting the charges stemming from alleged defamatory statements made against Alonzo.
Bea Alonzo’s legal counsel, Atty. Joey Garcia, viewed the development as a validation of the actress’s right to file the complaint.
Garcia emphasized that the case demonstrates the limits of free speech, stating that it does not extend to defamation.
The case originated from a cyber libel complaint filed in May 2024, alleging that Alonzo was the victim of false and damaging information spread on Fermin’s and Ogie Diaz’s online shows by someone falsely claiming to be close to the actress. The legal proceedings continue, with the defendants now preparing their defense against the charges.
