Aegis vocalist Mercy Sunot passes away after cancer battle

admin November 18, 2024

THE OPM music scene mourns the loss of Mercy Sunot, a beloved vocalist of the iconic band Aegis, who passed away on Monday morning after a courageous battle with cancer.

The band confirmed the news on their official Facebook page, sharing a heartfelt message that expressed their profound sadness and gratitude for Mercy’s contributions.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Mercy, one of the beloved vocalists of AEGIS Band. She bravely fought her battle with cancer but has now found peace and rest,” the statement read.

Aegis described Mercy’s voice as a source of comfort, joy, and strength for countless fans. “She has touched countless lives, inspiring fans and lifting spirits with every song she sang. Her passion, warmth, and unforgettable presence on stage will forever be cherished in our hearts,” the band said.

Mercy’s sister and fellow Aegis bandmate, Stephanie Ken, changed her profile picture to a black image with a lit candle on Facebook and Instagram, reflecting the grief and sorrow following the announcement.

Over the weekend, Mercy had taken to social media to ask for prayers after undergoing lung surgery, hinting at the severity of her condition.

Aegis, known for their powerful ballads and emotional anthems, achieved widespread popularity with hits like “Sinta,” “Luha,” and “Basang-basa sa Ulan.” Mercy’s distinctive voice and stage presence were integral to the band’s success.

The music community and fans alike are deeply saddened by Mercy’s passing, remembering her for her incredible talent, her warm personality, and her lasting impact on the Filipino music scene.

Rest in peace, Mercy. Your music and your spirit will live on.
