
PURSUANT to Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002” which provides the powers and duties of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to take charge and have custody of all dangerous drugs, plant sources of dangerous drugs, controlled precursors and essential chemicals, as well as instruments/paraphernalia and/or laboratory equipment so confiscated, seized, and/or surrendered, Director III Edgar Jubay, Regional Director, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office XI led the burning/destruction of confiscated/seized dangerous drugs on December 2, 2024 at around 9:00 in the morning, at Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes, J. Camus Extension, Corner Jose Abad Santos Street, Davao City.
A total of 1,661.3515 grams of shabu with estimated value of Php 11,297,190.20, 40,236.0056 grams of marijuana with estimated value of Php 4,828,320.67, and Php 999,965.84 worth of expired medicines, with a total of Php 16,125,510.87 were burned via thermal facility.
The burning of confiscated/seized and surrendered illegal drugs was witnessed by HONORABLE ROWENA M APAO-ADLAWAN, Executive Judge of Davao City, as well as respective representative from the Department of Justice, Public Attorney’s Office, elected public official, civil society group and friends from media.
The burning of illegal drugs was also done to erase the skepticism of the public that there is a recycling of seized/confiscated, and surrendered illegal drugs by the law enforcement agencies.
