THREE motorbancas conducting illegal fishing have been caught by joint team of Philippine Coast Guard on Friday.
The BRP CAPONES (MRRV-4404) skippered by CG CDR Randy Hengoyon, in collaboration with BFAR Fisheries Protection and Law Enforcement Group, apprehended three motorbancas conducting illegal fishing during a joint maritime patrol.
The illegal activities were spotted within CGDEV’s area of responsibility, including near Libucan Island, Tarangnan Samar, Maripipi Island, and Bool, Biliran. Two of the motorbancas were using Danish Seine, locally known as “hulbot-hulbot,” for their illegal fishing activities.
The first motorbanca, apprehended near Tarangnan, Samar, had its fishing net confiscated following the issuance of the Certificate of Orderly Inspection. The boat owner and crew were released after compliance with documentation and were advised to fulfill any lacking requirements. The other two were handed over to BFAR Region 8 for further proper disposition regarding fishery law violations and initiating appropriate charges.
