Sept. 17 final deadline for PNB, UnionBank to turn over VP Sara records

Metrosundaily September 14, 2026

PHILIPPINE National Bank (PNB) and UnionBank of the Philippines have until Thursday, Sept. 17, to complete their submission of subpoenaed records in the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte, the Senate impeachment court ordered Monday.

Presiding Officer Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero said the court partially granted the banks’ requests for more time but made clear that no further extension would be allowed.

“PNB and Union Bank are directed to submit the remaining documents on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, with the reminder that this period is non-extendible,” Escudero said.

The order comes as House prosecutors begin presenting evidence under Article II, which covers allegations of unexplained wealth and incomplete or inaccurate declarations of assets and financial interests.

Prosecutors have obtained bank, tax and other financial records involving Duterte, her husband, lawyer Manases “Mans” Carpio, and companies linked to them for use in their Article II presentation.

Separately, Escudero reminded Duterte’s defense that Sept. 23 is the deadline for its response to the prosecution’s 104 requests for admission involving bank records and account ownership.

“And one final reminder on the request for admission by the counsel for the prosecution and/or the panel of prosecutors for the respondent, the deadline for submitting your comment on this 104 requests for admission is on Sept. 23,” Escudero said.

Through the requests for admission, prosecutors are asking the defense to admit matters including the authenticity of subpoenaed bank documents and whether accounts appearing in the records belong to Duterte individually or jointly with others.

The procedure is intended to narrow the matters that still need to be established through testimony.

Prosecutors have said that if the relevant records and account ownership are admitted, they could dispense with the testimony of as many as 15 bank representatives who would otherwise be called to authenticate the documents.

The bank records form part of the financial evidence prosecutors intend to compare with Duterte’s declared assets and legitimate sources of income as they seek to prove their allegations under Article II.
