Personal remittances up by 4.4% YoY in June 2022

Metrosundaily August 16, 2022

PERSONAL remittances from Overseas Filipinos (OFs) grew by 4.4 percent year-on-year to reach US$3.1 billion in June 2022 from US$2.9 billion recorded in the same month last year.

This resulted in the growth of the cumulative personal remittances by 2.8 percent to US$17.1 billion in the first half of 2022 from US$16.6 billion recorded in the comparable period in 2021.

The increase in personal remittances in June 2022 was due to remittances sent by 1) land-based workers with work contracts of one year or more, and 2) sea- and land-based workers with work contracts of less than one year.

Similarly, cash remittances coursed through banks reached US$2.8 billion in June 2022, higher by 4.4 percent than the US$2.6 billion posted in the same month last year. On a year-to-date basis, cash remittances increased by 2.9 percent to US$15.3 billion from US$14.9 billion registered in the same period last year.

The expansion in cash remittances in June 2022 was due to the growth in receipts from land-based and sea-based workers.

In terms of country source, the growth in cash remittances from the United States (US), Saudi Arabia, Japan, Qatar, and Singapore contributed largely to the increase in remittances in the first half of 2022.1
