BOC reports 158 seizures of smuggled goods valued at P3.89B for 2022 Q1

AS part of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) commitment to strengthen border security, the Intelligence Group (IG) and Enforcement Group (EG) reported their anti-smuggling efforts for the first quarter of 2022.

From January to March of this year, IG and EG reported 158 seizures of smuggled goods with an estimated value of P3.89 billion. In terms of value, the following are the top 3 seized commodities: (1) counterfeit goods amounting to P1.91 billion; (2) illegal drugs amounting to P1.53 billion; and (3) cigarettes/tobacco which amounted to P132.56 million.

In addition, 25 Letters of Authority (LOA) were implemented for the same period, 16 of which yielded positive results.

Meanwhile, 31 alert orders were issued, 20 of which were positive for violation of pertinent customs laws, rules, and regulations.

Furthermore, 450 foreign vessels that deviated from their navigational path had entered the Philippine Territorial waters. Out of which, 405 foreign vessels were boarded and inspected by the BOC; 124 were inspected and all departed from the country, while 41 were inspected and 12 are yet for inspection but remain in the country.

The BOC, under the leadership of Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, continues to intensify its border protection efforts to safeguard the country against the proliferation of illegal goods.
