FIVE people died and several others were injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on Majayjay-Lucban Road in Majayjay, Laguna Sunday afternoon.
Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) officer Reyjohn Libato said that the accident occurred at the boundary of Barangays Bakia and Ilayang Banga.
Initially reported were the deaths of the bus conductor and three passengers. Subsequently, it was reported that one of the injured passengers who was taken to the hospital also passed away while receiving treatment.
Around 30 bus passengers were taken to various hospitals in Laguna.
A child who was riding in the SUV and reportedly suffered a head injury in the accident was also taken to the hospital.
It is believed that the bus was hired to transport passengers to Kamay ni Hesus in Lucban, Quezon.
Meanwhile, the SUV was coming from Majayjay and heading home to Atimonan when the tragedy occurred.
Authorities are continuing their investigation.
