A BARGE carrier ran aground today on the pier in Barangay Wawa 2, Rosario, Cavite due to the large waves caused by the typhoon “Enteng”.
According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the barge ran aground at exactly 8:30 in the morning.
Based on eyewitness accounts, the barge reportedly came from the sea, and the incident happened so quickly that the two tugboats trying to pull the barge could not control it, causing it to quickly run aground on the pier.
The two tugboats are attempting to pull the barge, but it was already hit by the low tide.
Fishermen are concerned that their boats and even homes may be damaged if the barge is not promptly removed from the pier.
Mayor Jose Voltaire V. Ricafrente personally visited the site where the barge collided to assess the impact it had on the residents and the town of Rosario, especially since it damaged a significant portion of Petron’s pipeline.
Some parts of the pier have also been damaged, causing worry among many residents.
Water has been temporarily added inside the barge to make it heavier.
The Philippine Coast Guard, in cooperation with the PNP Rosario, is currently investigating the incident.
