
A NOMINEE of the Ang Bumbero ng Pilipinas party-list was ambushed and shot in Sampaloc, Manila on Monday afternoon, April 28th, just two weeks before the upcoming national and local elections.
Initial reports identified the victim as Leninsky Bacud, a former chairman and nominee of the party-list.
The shooting occurred on P. Guevarra Street in Barangay 435, Zone 44, Sampaloc. According to the Manila Police District (MPD), led by District Director P/Brig. Gen. Benigno Guzman, witnesses reported that the suspects were on a motorcycle. A shootout reportedly ensued between the suspects and responding police officers.
Bacud, who sustained a gunshot wound to the upper chest, was rushed to the hospital where doctors attempted to revive him. However, according to the latest information received by General Guzman, Bacud succumbed to his injuries. Bacud was the second nominee of the Bumbero Partylist. Several parked vehicles in the area were also damaged by stray bullets during the exchange of fire.
The MPD, under the direction of Major Philipp Ines, has launched a “hot pursuit” operation to apprehend the suspects. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage and conducting backtracking to identify the perpetrators. The investigation into the crime is ongoing.
