
Kalibo, Aklan – Authorities have identified the suspect in the April 29th murder of 89-year-old Johnny Dayang, a former OIC-mayor and journalist in Kalibo, Aklan. In a press conference, Maj. Frensy Andrade, chief of the Kalibo Municipal Police Station, named Kim Wency Antonio, a resident of Negros Occidental, as the prime suspect.
According to Major Andrade, police investigation revealed that Antonio rented a hotel room and a motorcycle in Kalibo prior to the murder.
Through meticulous backtracking of CCTV footage, investigators were able to trace his movements and discovered a prior drug-related case against him in Pasig City in 2021.
Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky of the Police Regional Office 6 added that Antonio conducted surveillance in Kalibo beginning April 3rd and used a different motorcycle during the shooting. He subsequently left Western Visayas on May 2nd, prompting authorities to coordinate with Metro Manila police to apprehend him.
Dayang, a respected figure in the community, was shot while watching television at his home. The swift identification of the suspect is a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are currently working to locate and arrest Antonio, and further details regarding the motive behind the killing are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
